Starquest early access

Starquest is in early access, which means you're playing it while we're still making it. This page is the plain state of things: what works today, what we're building next, and how to reach us. We'll keep it current as builds go out.

What's playable

Not much yet, and we'd rather say so than dress it up. The current builds, numbered 0.0.x, open on the title screen: a Tern working an asteroid belt while the menu waits. New game, load game and settings are on the menu but greyed out, because the screens behind them don't exist yet. Quit works. Version numbers under 0.1 mean the foundations are still going in.

What we're building

Roughly in this order:

  • New game, load game and settings, so a pilot can start, stop and come back.
  • Mining. Asteroids are made of pixels, and every chip your beam cuts is one of them leaving the rock.
  • Stations, where you sell what you haul, refine it, and buy your way into a proper ship.
  • Ships that show their damage, and factions with their own ship lines and colours.
  • Bounties and exploration, the other two ways to make a living.

The devlog has the longer story behind each of these as it lands.

Found a bug?

Email [email protected]. Tell us the version number from the bottom right of the title screen, whether you're on Windows or macOS, and what you were doing when it went wrong. A screenshot helps more than you'd think.

Have a thought?

We want to hear it. Ideas, gripes, things that felt good, things that didn't: send them to [email protected]. Once the Steam page is live, the community hub there works too. We read everything, and while we can't answer all of it, it all goes on the board.
